[Around the world] Battle of the Bands in action
Welcome to this new series in which we introduce some amazing examples of how teachers from around the world have put the ideas in our book into practice. This post about Eva and a bunch of AI bands!
Eva sent me an email a couple of weeks ago about how her students dived into one of the project activities in the book: Battle of the Bands (Zsófi’s brainchild that she’s most proud of).
The idea in this project is that students work together with AI in creating their imaginary bands, including the name, the genre and the band image. They also co-create their hit single (with song generators like Suno or Udio), which will take part in the final challenge, the Battle of the Bands, where students listen to each other’s creations and vote for the best AI-co-generated song.
Extra steps
Eva, who’s a teacher at Lajos Petrik Bilingual Vocational School in Hungary, has taken this project not just one but a million steps further by adding several extra elements to the project, such as:
Band logo design challenge
Design your tour merch
Shoot a video clip
Create an imagined magazine interview
Hold a virtual press conference
A customized chatbot to help the brainstorming process
Eva has also designed a customized chatbot with the help of SchoolAI that helps students come up with the band they have in mind.
I’ve personally never used this site but based on a quick look, it’s very similar to MagicSchool in that it operates as a wrapper site (a wrapper site is something that’s in between users and the “main” GPT, such as ChatGPT). It has many functions, like a worksheet generator, letter of recommendation generator, text leveler, or field trip organizer.
What Eva has decided to use though is a great solution to try to keep students on the safe side of chatbots, because it doesn’t require a login and it follows a pre-programmed series of questions to create the conversation.
So, she created “Robert, the music manager.”
The final result
The entire project runs on Padlet, which you can check out here.
And one group has been vibing with the task so much that they have created their own instagram account with intro videos and a photoshoot, too! Give them a follow!
